Position Summary:

The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is currently seeking a Proteomics Core Facility Manager for its Florida Facility.

The Proteomics Core Facility Manager oversees the daily operation of the Proteomics Core Facility, including development of operating procedures and providing researchers with consultation and resources for advanced mass spectrometry support. The mission of the Core is to provide access to instrumentation and expertise though a fee-for-service model. When appropriate, engages in collaborative research with faculty and outside users.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Develops scheduling and user policies, and charges rates for services in collaboration with the Florida Core Facilities, Director.
* Works directly with TSRI faculty and outside users, the Proteomics Core Facility, Manager will help design, execute and analyze projects within the Core
* Participate in the development of novel processes and procedures as needed.
* Manage users in assessing their experimental needs; acts as a resource by fielding questions and offering instrument training and expert guidance in available proteomic methods.
* Performs experiments not available as a self-service option to users.
* Experience overseeing day-to-day operations of the Core facility including designing procedures and work flow processes, developing and implementing a budget, tracking Core services usage for invoicing purposes, managing the activities of Core staff, and other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
* Updates website and online calendar with information pertinent to Core policies, procedures, available technology, and scheduling.
* Develops and applies QC methods and instrument standby conditions to assure high quality results.
* Ensures that instruments are maintained to the highest working standards, including regular hardware/software maintenance.
* Negotiates and supervises any service contrcts with vendors as they relate to the Core.
* Orders parts and service as required to maintain the Core.
* May develop independent research programs, as appropriate to TSRI goals, or engage in collaborative research with members of the Institute and core users when appropriate.
* May publish original work in peer reviewed journals or attend scholarly conferences.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

DECISION MAKING:
Uses professional knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways. Determines operating policy and procedures and communicates and ensures consistency of same. Negotiates with outside vendors.

COMMUNICATION:
Regularly interacts with TSRI faculty, scientific staff, and support department employees at all levels, exchanging information, providing instruction/training, and interpretation of research results as appropriate.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY:
Works independently with no supervision of daily tasks, with general guidance on matters of significant impact. Manages the business of the Proteomics Core Facility including resource planning, resource scheduling, systems, budget and profitability.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
May supervise technical staff including interviewing, hiring, assignment delegation and review, approving time and salary assessment.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

* Ph.D. with background in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or similar life science field.
* 5+ years experience in proteomic analysis.
* Experience with the MS-based proteomic pipeline including sample preparation, high resolution MS operation and data analysis.
* Must possess demonstrated experience with the quanitification of post-translation modification levels between different cellular states by mass-spectrometry-(MS)-based proteomics is required.
* Must be able to design strategies and implement proteomic approaches.
* Excellent skills in experimental design and data analysis.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with lab management, training others in all aspects of proteomic research, and grant writing is preferred. Familiarity with the following instrumentation is preferred: Thermo Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid mass spectrometer; Thermo Q Exactive mass spectrometer and Thermo LTQ XL mass spectrometer.
Florida and Palm Beach County residents preferred.
