Position Title Staff Scientist
Position Summary:

Our laboratory studies the organization and functions of the nuclear envelope and endoplasmic reticulum. We are looking for an individual to work on a project involving the role of nuclear lamina proteins in regulation of signaling and chromatin functions in muscle and other cell types. Our approaches involve analysis of mouse and cultured cell models by light microscope imaging, biochemical and molecular biology procedures, proteomics and other methods. The person must be able to work in an independent manner to implement complex experimental design, execution, analysis and interpretation. The individual also must be able to fluently access the scientific literature and to communicate efficiently with others for problem solving and for novel methodology development. Proven effectiveness in working in a collaborative team environment is essential. The position responsibilities will include some supervision or training of others.
Take a leading role in planning complex or novel research projects that involve the performance of non-routine procedures; design experiments independently; develop new or improved techniques and evaluation criteria; carry out quantitative data analysis and critical interpretation of results; operate sophisticated scientific lab equipment; supervise or provide work direction and training to a small staff of professional-level employees; perform other related laboratory administrative duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience.
Proficiency in a majority of the following areas is required: work with mouse genetic models including colony breeding and evaluation of tissue morphology by histology; culture of primary and established mammalian cell lines; use of epifluorescence and confocal light microscopy for live cell imaging, immunolabeling and quantitative image analysis; implementation of contemporary molecular biology techniques including design and creation of cDNA clones and lentiviral expression vectors, expression of recombination proteins in bacteria, protein purification by column chromatography, gene silencing by RNAi, RNA analysis by q-RT-PCR and Western blotting and immunoprecipitation. Fluency in use of Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Graph Pad Prism or equivalent programs is essential.
