Position Title Communications Specialist
Position Summary:

The Department of Communications at Scripps Research is looking for a communications specialist with a background in science communications and digital/social communications experience to be part of a fast-paced marketing and communications team that tells the Institute’s story of life-changing research to a variety of audiences.
In addition to writing, this person will work with internal and external collaborators to help tell the Institute’s story through conceptualizing and developing multimedia content, including photography, podcasts, graphics and video. This person will also support the web team as needed, so CMS experience is preferred.
This person will manage the Institute’s social media marketing channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, with an eye to growing and engaging priority audiences. This position serves as a critical link between the generation of written and multimedia content by the department and its presence on social media, helping the team develop strategies and tactics to make the most effective use of resources to deliver content to our social media followers.
Integrating social media channels, email and other digital platforms, this person will help promote the Institute’s outreach events, support digital fundraising campaigns and develop strategies for collecting and managing audiences and prospect data.
This person will also support media relations efforts, working with colleagues to develop and distribute press packages, assist with the logistics of interviews and media visits to campus and track media coverage.
In addition, this position will work with colleagues in philanthropy and communications to develop content for compelling institute and fundraising materials, including one-pagers, brochures and other types of print and digital collateral. As a member of the communications team, this person will also assist the Institute’s scientists with developing high-priority multimedia content, such as videos and slide presentations.

This position works in a typical office environment. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in communications, health sciences or other relevant discipline
* 5+ years of relevant communications experience
* Experience with science writing
* Capable of researching and writing compelling and accurate content about highly technical science for a non-scientific audience.
* Ability to write communications for publications that conform to a prescribed style and format.
* A prolific content curator, creator, editor, and strategist who can confidently and effectively present information to staff and participants.
* Capable of devising communication plans geared towards measurable goals and identifying and implementing process improvements.
* Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
* Experience presenting results to senior management.
