|Position Summary:|| |
This position is with the Information Services organization on the La Jolla campus of Scripps Research. This is a Tier Two Technical Analyst who supports the Client Services team of Tier One analysts by developing and deploying solutions related to the configuration, deployment, security and routine maintenance of over 3000 endpoint/client computers. This position is the first point of escalation for problem and incident response between Tier One Analysts and Tier Three IT Engineers, especially relating to Microsoft/Windows endpoints.

Provide world-class customer service and professionalism
Assists Tier One analysts in the daily administration of desktop workstations. Establishes standard practices for configuration, security, installation, and maintenance of operating systems, applications, and peripheral equipment. Diagnoses complex hardware and software problems. Manages and recommends system or process changes and consults on equipment purchase/retirement decisions.
Serves as the first point of escalation for Tier One Analysts, directly troubleshooting problems affecting the enterprise environment. Collaborates with Tier Three staff in the Information Services Department (Datacenter Support, Network Management, InfoSec, High Performance Computing) in developing and deploying enterprise solutions. This position initiates problem escalation to Tier Three during incidents and becomes the liaison between the Tiers during problem resolution.
Take ownership of complex tasks and leverage deep Microsoft and Windows knowledge and troubleshooting skills to drive to swift resolution.
Analyzes requirements for complex laboratory instrumentation and recommends computer configurations. Identifies and addresses evolving scientific requirements and suggests application/network enhancements.
Collaborates regularly with the IS team on the Florida campus, especially the Tier Two Analysts there, to ensure both campuses follow consistent processes and practices.
Offers advanced technical assistance and solutions consulting to clients in both administration and laboratory environments.
Functions as liaison with various system vendors. Coordinates work associated with vendor’s maintenance agreement obligations. Tracks design and operational problems to be corrected by vendor.
Organizes and teaches computer and network training sessions for Tier One analysts to maintain knowledge of Microsoft and Windows technologies, industry standards and best practices.
Determines feasibility of new operating systems and system software upgrades with consideration of application and hardware requirements.
SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY
Works on problems with considerable scope where judgment and experience is required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Exercises judgment and initiative on a variety of complex IT systems issues, selecting and testing methods and techniques to determine appropriate action. Limited supervision. Participates in determining objectives of assignments. Some weekend or evening hours will be required.

Excellent customer service orientation and strong analytical, verbal and written communications skills
Ability to work with clients/customers at all organizational levels from diverse cultural backgrounds, languages and nationalities
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other technology discipline
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure and 365 direct user support, including Windows 10 client configuration, Group Policy management, user account life cycle, etc.
Experience supporting Linux client systems especially RHEL, Ubuntu and CentOS
Experience implementing security compliance controls including user access control/account management, data leakage prevention, digital rights management, etc.
Understanding of host and network monitoring tools. Experience investigating and isolating anomalies in a heterogeneous, networked environment is expected.
Understanding of IP telephony systems preferred
Understanding of AV systems preferred
Strong aptitude to learning new technologies
Must work in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance
