The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.

Position Overview:
The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr), a close affiliate of Scripps Research, is seeking talented Investigator candidates in the area of Cell Biology with a specific focus in Cellular Therapies, to join our team.

This position will work with a small team of interdisciplinary scientists on innovative, high risk, high reward cellular programs which will ultimately be translated into human clinical trials. Specifically, this position will be integral in the translation of Calibr’s universal, switchable CAR-T cell platform into first in human clinical trials and in the discovery and development of next generation CAR-T cell platforms. The Investigator will be responsible for day-to-day research activities and have the opportunity to grow into a significant leadership position at Calibr. This position will work closely with the translational medicine group at Calibr and with major pharma as part of the scope of Calibr’s strategic research alliance with AbbVie.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Cell biology including working with primary human immune cells and culturing multiple cell lines including, but not limited to, common tumor cell lines used in immuno-oncology research.
* Design and execution of project plans involving immune cell profiling, cell processing from xenograft models, cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation, cell viability, and survival assays with a strong focus on flow cytometry.
* Authoring of research reports, generation of slide decks, and management of research timeline are all within the scope of this position.
* Molecular biology experiments including DNA and protein preparation from cells, immunoprecipitation, Western blots, etc will be within the scope of work.
* Specifically, preparation of and experiments with CAR-T cells from human and/or mouse cells are a fundamental part of this research.

Basic Qualifications:

* An outstanding background in cell culture is essential.
* Hands on experience in cellular immunotherapies is strongly preferred.
* Experience with and gene editing is advantagenous but not required.
* Experience with multi-color flow cytometry and flow data analysis is required.
* Experience and knowledge of the immune system is a required. Experience in T cell biology, tumor immunology, as well as other immune components is preferred.
* Hands-on experience with in vitro assays commonly used in immuno-oncology, and experience preparing reagents for in vivo assays.
* Experience with cell transfection and viral vector-based transduction systems is preferred.
* Experience with molecular biology techniques is preferred.
* Experience using Prism, FlowJo, and Office software is important.
* In vivo experience preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* PhD in immunology (preferred), biology, chemical biology, biochemistry or related area with 2-4 year’s postdoctoral experience and/or 3-8 years’ experience in industry. Prior postdoc experience is preferred but not required.
* Highly motivated, creative, and devoted to project goals.
* Impeccable attention to detail, and excellent ability to perform hands on experiments, research, design, and organize project designs and maintain detailed documentation.
* Able to collaborate proficiently and communicate effectively with colleagues and management teams.
* Able to contribute in a meaningful way to scientific discourse.
