Position Summary:

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is a part of the team providing advanced computing solution in a heterogeneous environment. This role will be involved in the day-to-day systems administration of Linux virtual machines, SAN/NAS storage systems, and other installed hardware & software. Additional duties include managing systems backup, writing scripts to monitor and automate routine tasks, and partnering with the network and helpdesk teams to provide excellent support to the TSRI scientific & administrative community.

This role will be involved in the day-to-day systems administration of Linux virtual machines, SAN/NAS storage systems, and other installed hardware & software. Additional duties include managing systems backup, writing scripts to monitor and automate routine tasks, and partnering with the network and helpdesk teams to provide excellent support to the TSRI scientific & administrative community.

Responsibilities and Duties:
* Administers complex configuration, installation and maintenance of VMware and Linux infrastructure
* Responsible for build, deployment, updates, patching, and maintenance of the Linux and VMware and their underlying compute and storage infrastructure
* Designs, deploys, and maintains SAN and NAS centralized storage systems.
* Automates and standardizes building OS and servers using scripting or configuration management tools.
* Determines applicability and feasibility of new operating systems, software upgrades and patches with full consideration of application, hardware requirements, security, and end-user requirements.
* Designs, deploys, and documents build process of new servers and applications. Develops and maintains scripts and applications for system configuration, management, maintenance, and logging.
* Makes system enhancements and modifications based on evolving business requirements.
* Functions as a liaison to the desktop support group and provides second tier support regarding applications and storage
* Functions as liaison with systems vendors. Coordinate work associated with maintenance agreement obligations. Track design and operational problems to be corrected by vendors.
* Logs maintenance, system configurations, and hardware/software repairs. Maintains log for system hardware and software modifications.
* Installs, configures and performs backup maintenance to servers, tape drives/libraries, storage systems, etc. and monitors their daily operation.
* Must be willing to work on a 24×7 on-call basis on a rotating schedule with other systems administrators
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree required in a technical field such as Computer Science or
* Information Technology, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
* Minimum 6 years of relevant system administration experience in a Linux environment, experience with enterprise collaboration applications, directory services, and central storage systems in a network environment.
* Proficient in more than one scripting language such as, Perl, bash, Python, or Ruby
* Strong analytical, verbal and written communications skills. Strong customer service skills.
* Demonstrated with various operating systems, storage platforms, computing architectures, and server hardware such as NetApp, Load Balancers, Firewalls, Microsoft Windows, and various Linux distributions.
* Demonstrated experience working with LDAP, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Apache and VMWare ESXi. Extensive knowledge of varied and relevant network protocols, associated analysis tools, hardware and system management applications, including Nagios. Proficient with data backup, restoring and archiving, internet protocols, and server maintenance.
* Experience with SANs, Brocade Fiber Channel switches, and NAS Fileservers
* Experience working with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud platforms a plus
* Knowledge and experience with configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible, and Puppet desired.
