Job Description

Requisition Number 07406
Department Name: Integrative Structural and Computational Biology
Position Type: Full Time
Position Title Postdoctoral Associate
Position Summary:

Postdoctoral positions are available in Prof. Ian Wilson’s laboratory at Scripps Research for highly motivated candidates who are interested in structure-based design of vaccine candidates targeting microbial pathogens. Specifically, we are looking for candidates interested in working on one of two specific projects that focus on immune recognition of influenza virus or P. falciparum malaria parasite. Candidates with prior experience in structural biology, antibodies, and pathogens, and interest in vaccines and therapeutics, are encouraged to apply.
The Wilson laboratory research focuses on crystallographic studies of immune recognition of microbial pathogens, such as influenza virus, HIV-1, HCV and malaria. The major goals are to understand the interaction and neutralization of microbial antigens by the immune system through structural studies using high-resolution X-ray crystallography, complemented with biophysical studies. The structural biology components are mainly focused on the analysis of antibody responses, definition of the neutralizing epitopes, and use of that information to guide design of immunogens as potential vaccines and small molecules as therapeutics. These projects also involve working within a multi-disciplinary group of collaborating laboratories at Scripps.
