Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.
We are seeking a talented Infectious Disease Postdoctoral Associate to join our multidisciplinary team working to discover and develop new drugs for neglected infectious tropical diseases. The primary focus of this position is to establish an in vitro kinetoplastid drug discovery screening platform targeting Leishmania. This will include developing novel assays using high-content imaging of intracellular infection and adapting existing assays to high throughput screening approaches. The position will require both independent as well as highly collaborative work. Work will be published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

Position Description

The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment focused on early pre-clinical and translational research. Specific responsibilities include planning, designing, completing and troubleshooting novel and established assays, screening of small molecule libraries, and data analysis. The candidate will be expected to prepare technical summaries for use in reports and presentations at internal and national meetings and have a high level of written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate should have interest in implementing innovative approaches, previous experience working with Leishmania parasites, and have a strong work ethic and time management skills.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

PhD with a focus on biology, infectious disease, and/or biochemistry
* Basic microbiology and cell culturing techniques will be required
* Candidates possessing prior in vitro and/or in vivo experience with Leishmania will be given priority
* Expertise with microscopy and high content imaging a plus
* BSL2 and BSL2+ experience not required, but must be willing to work in this environment
