Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease. Calibr is seeking Postdoctoral Fellow candidates to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on early stage translational research using innovative approaches as cancer therapeutics.

Position Overview:
Talented Postdoctoral fellows with training in the biological sciences, pathology, oncology or immunology with an interest in drug discovery will aid in the execution of discovery of small molecule candidates through assay development, high throughput screening, mechanistic elucidation and biological profiling. This highly collaborative position will involve integration with the medicinal chemistry teams, pharmacology and bridge into the development of project management skills to successfully lead teams to deliver optimized candidates into IND-enabling studies.

Position Description

* Conduct experiments to assess innate immune activation with adjuvant in primary human immune cells, myeloid progenitors, tumor lines and primary mouse immune cells (PBMCs, splenocytes, B cells, and antigen presenting cells)
* Design and execution of project plans involving kinase or enzymatic assays, binding or HTRF-based screens, immune cell profiling, cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation, cell viability, and survival assays to characterize / optimize small molecules discovered through high throughput screening
* Experienced in design of flow cytometry-based experiments, antibody panels, Flo Jo (data analyses) and operation of flow cytometry machines
* Identification of biomarker candidates (protein, mRNA, miRNA) and secreted factors to guide preclinical development
* Assessment of antigen and adjuvant activation of immune cells
* Immunoprecipitation, Western blots, and qPCR to elucidate mechanistic insights
* Team leadership or project management skills: preparation of reports, presentation of results, organizing and conducting team meetings
* Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

* PhD in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, or equivalent
* Able to function in a highly collaborative, team-oriented and dynamic environment
* Strong communication skills
* Background in cell culture is essential
* Preferred experience in optimization and execution of cell-based and biochemical assays for high throughput screening
* Preferred experience and knowledge of the immune system, infectious disease and / or musculoskeletal biology
* Preferred experience with molecular biology, cell biology, flow cytometry, high content imaging or image analyses techniques
