Position Summary:

Andrabi/Burton Labs in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Scripps Research, are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to lead the HIV vaccine development efforts in the Lab. The major focus of the project will be to understand how B cell responses to complex HIV envelope antigen surface develop upon vaccination and infection, and how immunogens could be manipulated to favor induction of an epitope-focused B cell response. The overall goal for this position is to lead the effort to develop immunogens and immunization strategies that can reproducibly induce protective neutralizing antibody responses. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art immunogen design and immune monitoring technologies including, protein engineering, in vitro directed-evolution, single B cell isolation, next generation sequencing, and high-throughput SPR kinetic analysis. Applicant should have a strong publication record and demonstrated expertise in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry fields.

Position Description

A Postdoctoral Associate is a direct pay individual in a Division 3 status. Postdoctoral Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a TSRI Faculty member. These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of six years. Postdoctoral Associates cannot apply for external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from a Departmental Chair. Postdoctoral Associates do not have consulting privileges.

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess a doctoral degree. A pending doctoral degree may be considered with approval of the Principal Investigator.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, or similar is required
* Independent, highly motivated, and driven to address fundamental questions about viral immunology with the ability to harness emerging technologies
* Experience in molecular biology (gene cloning, protein production and purification) and immunology (assessment of antibody binding/neutralization) techniques
* Expertise in protein production, flow cytometry, microscopy, next-generation sequencing and surface plasmon resonance is highly desirable
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with, and mentor junior scientists and students
