Position Summary:

Research Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a TSRI Faculty member. These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of six years. Research Associates cannot apply for external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from a Departmental Chair. Research Associates do not have consulting privileges.

Additional Information:

The Andersen lab is working on diverse projects studying the interaction and co-evolution between viruses and the human immune system using ‘Big Data’ approaches and high-throughput technologies, such as next-generation sequencing. We are also developing technologies and computational tools to use next-generation sequencing as a novel technology for unbiased pathogen discovery. Our research is primarily focused on emerging viruses including Zika, Ebola, and Lassa virus. We use a combination of fieldwork in West Africa, technology development, and computational biology to investigate these viruses.
Tasks will include:
* Develop new technologies to better sequence and analyze viruses and other pathogens from multiple different human samples.
* Perform independent experimental research exploring pathogen causality in human patients.
* Conceive and implement assays and work with computational biologists to translate these models into testable experiments; analyze the data produced from these experiments

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess a doctoral degree. A pending doctoral degree may be considered with approval of the Principal Investigator.
