Additional Information:

The Andersen lab is working on diverse projects studying the interaction and co-evolution between viruses and the human immune system using ‘Big Data’ approaches and high-throughput technologies. We have teamed up with a company here in San Diego to translate our scientific expertise into point-of-care genomic solutions.
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented researcher experienced in both engineering (mechanical, microfluidics) and sequencing assay development. The project involves building point-of-care sample processing devices that can be used in remote settings, and using them in concert with portable sequencing instruments. A strong engineering and microfluidics background is essential, as is many years of experience with sample-prep and assay development. Depending on interest, the project could also involve actual field deployment to test and validate the entire workflow in South America and West Africa. The current diseases of interest are TB, Ebola, Zika, and Lassa. This project is an academic-industry partnership, and will involve direct interaction and/or appointment with companies developing point-of-care genomic solutions.
