The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.

The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow or research associate candidates to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on early stage translational research. Postdoctoral fellow or research associate will work as part of a team of scientists to engineer peptides or proteins that modulate novel biological pathways or processes and represent new therapeutic approaches to unmet medical needs. Research activities include protein/peptide expression and purification from bacteria or mammalian cells and subsequent modification; Peptide synthesis in solution phase and/or solid phase, including chemical linker synthesis, peptide and protein conjugation chemistry; Responsibilities may include mammalian cell-based assay development and optimization and high throughput cell-based screens, elucidation of biologically relevant targets/mechanisms of action and elaboration of protein or small molecules toward pre-clinical drug candidates. Postdoctoral fellow or research associate will publish their findings in high impact, peer-reviewed journals and be co-inventors on patents related to their work

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Peptide/protein chemistry, including peptide synthesis and/or protein expression in E coli or mammalian systems, linker synthesis, protein/peptide bioconjugation
* Able to collaborate proficiently and communicate effectively with colleagues and management teams
* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

* PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology or related area with demonstrated research excellence and multitasking ability and a strong work ethic
* Up to 2 years of postdoctoral experience is acceptable, but not required.
* Interdisciplinary experiences in bioorganic/organic chemistry, pharmacology, experience in peptide engineering and protein chemistry will be a plus
* Highly motivated, creative, and able to maintain excellent documentation of their work
