Position Summary:

The Farzan Lab is hiring a Research Assistant who is enthusiastic about using gene therapy techniques towards an HIV cure. Specifically, we are developing AAV vectors to express HIV inhibitors in non-human primate models to prevent and treat infection. This position will include hands-on training for basic laboratory skills and lead towards development of independence for day-to-day work.

Description of Responsibilities:
Maintain mammalian cells lines.
DNA preparation from bacteria systems.
Produce AAV vectors from mammalian cell lines.
Evaluate AAV vectors in rodent systems.
Perform ELISAs to determine inhibitor quantities from animal samples.
Produce recombinant protein from mammalian cells.
Perform in vitro inhibition assays.
Present results at weekly lab meetings and on-campus research symposia.

Position Description

Under general supervision, independently and in collaboration with others, perform research for projects; may provide interpretation and initial analysis of results; may investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures; may assist in designing experiments; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. or B.A. in Biology/Microbiology/Biochemistry or related field.

Excellent organizational, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Keep accurate records and follow protocol instructions.
Desire to learn about AAV vectors.
Experience with cell culture and biochemical assays is preferred but not necessary.

Florida and Palm Beach County residents are preferred.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
