Position Summary:

A research assistant position is available immediately, in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting experiments in mouse genetics, immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Responsibilities include working with small animals and animal tissues, DNA, RNA, cell and tissue cultures, operation of standard laboratory equipment, and independently coordinating assignments on a day-to-day basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Carry out supervised experiments with rodent animals and animal tissue, including (but not limited to) animal breeding, tail clipping, genotyping, weaning, immunization, tissue harvesting, FACS, histology, and immunohistochemistry.
2. Conduct supervised experiments using standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including (but not limited to) PCR, transformation, subcloning, DNA preparation, Southern, Northern, and Western blotting.
3. Perform cell and tissue culture, transfection, retroviral transduction.
4. Order reagents, and prepare routinely used laboratory agents such as solutions, buffers, and gels.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.
Research experience that provides practical familiarity with immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and general laboratory procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
Compensation: $19.58- 24.45 per hour budgeted hiring range
