Position Title Research Assistant II
Position Summary:

Scripps Research is currently seeking a Research Assistant II to join the Genomics Core for its Florida facility. The Research Assistant II will report to the Scientific Director of Genomics Core. The successful candidate will perform the full range of next generation sequencing services and must be able to work methodically and efficiently to attain research goals of the core team and our research community.

Responsibilities and Duties:

* Perform sequencing sample processing and instrument operation with attention to detail
* Maintain Core inventory, order reagents, consumables as necessary
* Responsible for maintaining an accurate notebook with meticulous record keeping
* Routinely contacts the vendors and instrument tech support regarding problems or proper run set up. Expected to be proactive about instrument issues, maintenance and upkeep.

Position Description

The ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others. The selected candidate must be able to perform techniques and conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures related to next-generation sequencing; The ideal candidate will assist in overseeing the core laboratory by receiving and processing samples, and communicating effectively with investigators; Investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures as necessary; Performs routine equipment maintenance and other tasks required for the operation of the core lab.

Additional Information:

- Prior experience with operating, data analysis and interpretation of Agilent Bioanalyzer and TapeStation 2200.
- Prior experience and in-depth knowledge related to NGS library preparation and sequencing is highly desirable along with familiarity handling magnetic beads and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) setup.
- The ideal candidate should have excellent pipetting skills with small volumes and prior experience with preparation and quantitation of nucleic acids.
- Experience operating sequencing instruments such as Illumina NextSeq 500 and the MiSeq is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 2+ years experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Florida & Palm Beach County residents are preferred.
