Position Summary:

The Felding lab studies mechanisms and inhibition of cancer progression. Our work is focused on developing knowledge and tools for detection, prevention, and treatment of cancer with the translational goal of improving cancer therapy. Our approaches rely on cancer cell and animal models, functional analyses in vitro and in vivo, metabolic studies and reprogramming, investigation of novel therapeutic avenues and combination treatments to enhance the efficacy of cancer therapy and prevent disease recurrence. Our studies involve collaborations with Scripps Research and other investigators across cancer biology, chemistry, protein structure and function analyses, antibody engineering, and clinical oncology.
The technologist position includes lab management; work with mouse genetic models, colony breeding and evaluation of tissue morphology and function by histology and protein activity; preclinical cancer xenograft models, surgery, and new treatment evaluation; non-invasive imaging technology; culture of primary and established mammalian cell lines; 3D culture systems; immuno histochemistry, use of epifluorescence and confocal microscopy for cell imaging; flow cytometry; immunolabeling and quantitative image analysis; molecular biology techniques including design and generation of cDNA clones and lentiviral expression vectors; expression of recombinant proteins, protein purification by column chromatography; gene and protein expression analyses, silencing by shRNA, q-RT-PCR, cell signaling activity, Western blot analysis and immunoprecipitation.
* Will work independently under minimal supervision and exercise considerable initiative, independence, discretion and judgment in carrying out work assignments.
* Establish independent procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives in a broad area of work being observant, displaying tact, consideration and maturity while meeting deadlines and performance expectations.
* Provide analyses and interpretation of results.
Will perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 3+ years experience required.
Fluency in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Graph Pad Prism or equivalent programs is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Excellent verbal/written communication skills and dependable record keeping.
* Strong project and laboratory management with excellent organizational skills.
* Effective interpersonal relation skills.
* Experience with small animal surgery. Knowledge of rodent breeding and small laboratory animal treatments highly preferred.
* Cell culture systems and cell functional analyses.
* Molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
