Position Title Research Assistant II
Position Summary:

Seeking a Research Assistant in Immunology and Microbiology department. Will involve laboratory work handling live human and primate pathogens such as HIV, SIV, SHIV. Will work extensively with molecular biological techniques such as PCR and subcloning, mammalian tissue culture, cell-based reporter assays, protein/antibody expression and purification, ELISAs, next-generation sequencing library preparation, site-directed mutagenesis, and flow cytometry.
Will work under minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others perform research and conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures for projects, analyze data and interpret results, investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures as necessary, may assist in designing experiments, may provide routine equipment maintenance as well as guidance/training to other department personnel; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 2+ years experience required.

  • Specifically, extensive experience with molecular biological techniques such as PCR and subcloning is required.
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture, cell-based reporter assays, protein/antibody expression and purification, ELISAs, next-generation sequencing library preparation, site-directed mutagenesis, and flow cytometry is highly preferred.
  • Must be willing to be trained and to work in a Bio-Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory handling live human and primate pathogens such as HIV, SIV, SHIV.
  • Must have strong background in molecular biology, virology and immunology. Should be able to plan, conduct and analyze complex experiments under guidance in a highly collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Compensation: $45,926- $57,408 per annum budgeted amount.
