Position Summary:

Scripps Research is currently seeking a Research Assistant for its Florida facility in the Molecular Medicine Department.

The position is to study Ribosome-Associated Protein Quality Control, both at the fundamental level and its role in disease. The approaches utilized include mouse models of neurodegeneration, mammalian tissue culture and molecular biology/cloning techniques.

Plan and conduct complex or novel research projects that involve the performance of non-routine procedures, development of new or improved techniques and evaluation criteria, thorough data analysis and complex interpretations of results; assist in designing experiments; operate sophisticated scientific lab equipment; may plan and conduct a small or average size project or a large portion of a more diverse project; may supervise or provide work direction and training to a small staff of professional-level employees; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of 5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 3+ years experience required.

Experience with mouse dissection and tissue harvest are highly desirable.

Requires strong project and laboratory management with excellent organizational skill, previous experience with a variety of spreadsheets and data management software systems; and the ability to analyze and report data from research efforts. Clearly and effectively prepare reports and presentations.

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Florida & Palm Beach County residents are preferred.
