Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease. Calibr is seeking Research Assistant candidates to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on early stage translational research using innovative approaches as cancer therapeutics.

Position Overview:
Talented scientists with training in the biological sciences, pathology, oncology or immunology with an interest in drug discovery will aid in the execution of discovery of small molecule candidates through assay development, high throughput screening, mechanistic elucidation and biological profiling. This highly collaborative position will involve integration with the medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology teams to support the development of optimized candidates into IND-enabling studies.

Position Description

* Cell biological experiments using primary human immune cells, mesenchymal stem cells, tumor lines and immortalized cell lines
* Execution of drug discovery approaches using kinase or enzymatic assays, binding or HTRF-based screens, immune cell profiling, cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation, cell viability, and survival assays
* Optimization and execution of high throughput screens
* Molecular biology experiments including DNA and protein preparation from cells, immunoprecipitation, Western blots, and qPCR to elucidate mechanistic insights
* Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

* Background in cell culture is essential
* Preferred experience in optimization and execution of cell-based and biochemical assays for high throughput screening
* Preferred experience and knowledge of the immune system, infectious disease and / or musculoskeletal biology
* Preferred experience with molecular biology, cell biology, flow cytometry, high content imaging or image analyses techniques
* BS, BA, MA, MS, in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, or equivalent
* Able to function in a highly collaborative, team-oriented and dynamic environment
* Strong communication skills
