Position Overview:
Calibr at Scripps Research is seeking talented candidates in Molecular Biology and Protein Engineering. The position functions as part of a small team of interdisciplinary scientists to develop novel protein therapeutics both in the cellular immunotherapy/immuno-oncology and antibody fields. The successful candidate will play an integral role generating therapeutic candidates for our switch-based CAR-T platform and bispecific antibody program and demonstrate a good understanding of technologies required for developing proprietary biotherapeutics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Hands on, wet lab experiments are core to the scope of work including, but not limited to molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and biophysical characterization of therapeutic candidates.
* Molecular biology activities include DNA isolation and purification, construct design, and assembly-based cloning.
* Expression of recombinant proteins in mammalian and bacterial systems.
* Column-based protein purification by gravity and automated chromatography methods.
* Characterization of proteins by SDS-PAGE, LC/MS, HPLC-based chromatography, and ELISA.
* Prepare scientific and technical documents including detailed data reports, protocols and SOPs, CMC documentation and regulatory filings.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
Basic Qualifications:

Qualifications and Experience:
* Candidates for the position must possess a BS, MS, or PhD with 3-5 years of experience in protein science, molecular biology, or related field - experience with antibody engineering is preferred.
* Proficiency in DNA/RNA isolation and purification, classical and assembly-based cloning methods, site-directed mutagenesis, and PCR is required. Experience in qPCR, cDNA library construction, genome engineering, and phenotypic directed antibody selection is a plus.
* Experience with mammalian cell expression in HEK and/or CHO cells is required. Experience with hybridoma cell lines is a plus.
* Proficiency with column-based chromatography, AKTA instrumentation, and UNICORN software is essential.
* Experience with protein analytics, including SDS-PAGE, ELISA, HPLC chromatography, and protein mass spectrometry is highly preferred. Experience with capillary electrophoresis (CE), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), biolayer interferometry (BLI), and/or dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a plus.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and instrument specific software.
* Must possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving skills.
* The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
