Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.
We are seeking to add a highly motivated, team-oriented, experienced parasitologist to the malaria drug discovery team. Under this role, the ideal candidate will work with other team members to support the execution of blood and liver-stage screens, investigate mechanism of action for novel compounds and communicate results in team presentations (internal and external), reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Position Description

* Execute high-throughput assays against select Plasmodium lifecycle stages for screening campaigns
* Perform data analysis and lab notebook documentation
* Lead collaborations with other malaria labs
* Take a leadership role in communicating with and reporting to funding partners
* Introduce and share parasite/methodology expertise with other team members
* As needed, pursue target identification and additional biological research to assist in the characterization of novel compounds
* The position requires great attention to detail, troubleshooting capability and flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

* Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in parasitology, microbiology, biology, biochemistry or related field
* At least three years of postdoctoral experience
* Experience with cell-based and biochemical assays using methods such as imaging, luminescence fluorescence in high-density formats is highly preferred
* Experience with database interface and data analysis using Excel, GeneData and Prism
* Excellent oral and written communications skills
* Prior experience with new methodologies in the field (i.e. CRISPR) is a plus
* Letter of recommendation and/or at least one professional reference is required
