Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research, is focused on innovative early stage translational research in collaboration with academic partners in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease. ?

Position Overview:

Our Pharmacology group seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join Calibr’s multi-disciplinary drug discovery efforts. This individual will be working alongside our established in vivo team but may also bring additional in vitro and ex vivo expertise to the team. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished "do-er" with strong and applicable in vivo skills and biotech or pharma experience who wants to make an immediate impact.
The Pharmacology Department is responsible for the development, validation and implementation of acute and chronic in vivo models of disease to characterize the efficacy of lead molecules. The expertise of the in vivo pharmacology team spans over a wide range of disease areas to support Calibr’s diverse preclinical portfolio. Such disease areas include: oncology; diabetes; cardiovascular; inflammation; and autoimmunity. Additionally, the group routinely performs pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and exploratory toxicology studies, supporting lead optimization and facilitating key decision points.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Providing pharmacology support for drug discovery projects
* Developing and executing in vivo proof-of-concept experiments in support of multiple drug discovery programs
* Interact with team members and assist on routine and novel research projects. Once a study is assigned, independently run experiments and troubleshoot potential concerns as needed.
* Performing other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology or related field with 5+years of in vivo experience
* Experience leading and performing in vivo research studies
* Familiar with federal, state, and/or industry standard operating procedures and regulations regarding animal welfare in research
* Excellent attention to detail and record keeping
* Expertise in Microsoft Office suite
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work independently, manage own studies with little supervision, reporting directly to a principal investigator
* Prefer experience with in vitro techniques (e.g., ELISA development, qRT-PCR, cell culture, or flow cytometry) to follow through with sample analysis from in vivo work.
* Ability to run numerous studies and projects in parallel required.
* Must be willing to occasionally work off-hours, weekends and holidays as needed
