|Department Name:||Chemistry - FL|
|Position Type:||Full Time|
|Position Title||Staff Scientist|
|Position Summary:|| |
The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is currently seeking a Staff Scientist in the area of rational design of small molecules targeting RNA. The selected candidate will work in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Disney, in the Chemistry Department for its Florida facility.
The selected candidate will conduct research using a combination of approaches to rationally design small molecules targeting RNA (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2012, 134(10): 4731-4742; ACS Chem. Biol. 2012, in press; and, ACS Chem. Biol. 2012, 7(3): 496-505). Several compounds have been successfully developed to target repeating RNA transcripts that cause diseases such as Myotonic Dystrophy, Huntington’s Disease, et cetera. We are seeking qualified individuals to contribute to future developments in this area including: (i) using a library-versus-library screen to identify and annotate RNA-ligand interactions (described in J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2011, 133(26): 10111-10118 and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Engl. 2010, 49(22): 3816-3818); (ii) using computationally approaches (RNA structure modeling) to identify new RNA targets for small molecules from human genomic sequence; and (iii) further develop lead bioactive compounds in a variety of cellular and animal model systems.
Our laboratory is located at The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Florida. Students interested in careers in academia or in industry are well suited for these positions. Scripps Florida houses high throughput screening, DMPK, and other facilities that uniquely position us for translational research.
