Job Description

Requisition Number 06332
Department Name: Molecular Medicine - CA
Position Type: Full Time
Position Title Staff Scientist
Position Summary:

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated individual with a strong background in the molecular biology of RNA. The staff scientist to be recruited should have extensive experience with long non-coding RNAs. This includes all relevant molecular techniques as well as knowledge in bioinformatics.
The focus of the lab is on long non-coding RNAs expressed in cancer and their relationship to known oncogenes such as MYC and PI3K. We are interested in studying the 100s of RNAs which are expressed only upon gain of function in a driver oncoprotein. These lncRNAs are candidate markers of oncogenic transformation and in some cases may contribute to the oncogenic phenotype. An important goal of our work is the identification of lncRNAs that possess growth-promoting effects on cancer cells. As a tool, we use small targeted Cas9 libraries. Once identified, the lncRNAs will be characterized both functionally and structurally.
The candidate should have the skills to take on important ongoing projects on MYC and non-coding transcripts in the lab immediately and without significant training.
